Still Missing Your Snuff? PDF Print E-mail

It may be a long time before you never think about it anymore.

After about day 85 I got to the point where almost all thoughts of dip were easily dismissed.

I do seem to go through a bad day or two every 4-6 weeks, but for the most part, I rarely, if ever, crave for it anymore. However, not a day has gone by that I have not thought about dipping and/or wanted a dip.

I realize this is not what you want to hear, but think about how often you dipped. 10 years? 20? 30? How many cans have you tapped, sliced the label with your fingernail, opened the lid and plunged your fingers into?

Heck, if nothing else, it's muscle memory. We have to allow plenty of time for our bodies and minds to heal. This is a powerful addiction, but one that is worth beating.

Here's some good news for you though:

Now I have self control. The daily thoughts and desires for dip I still have are really no stronger than other desires. I simply say "no." The thoughts do not "hurt" like in the beginning.

Imagine driving down the freeway and someone cuts you off ... doesn't even know it either. Is not even paying attention. I don't know about you, but man, that really gets my blood boiling. They almost cause an accident which would have injured you and your family.

You want to yell at this person, flip 'em the bird or better yet ... plow your car right into theirs. But do you? Of course not! You have a fleeting, momentary desire to do so perhaps, but you know better. Sure, any of those things might make you feel better at the time, but the consequences are not worth it.

I realize this is not the perfect analogy, but my point is that you will get to the point in your quit when excercizing restraint is relatively easy. Sure you may want a dip, but the consequences are just not worth it.

Think about your own life. Certainly there are things you want that you realize you cannot (or should not) have or engage in, right? You willingly choose to say "no".

Do you frequent brothels, drink on the job, sleep in until noon regularly, commit armed robbery, steal sports cars, eat pork chops everyday for breakfast?

Any of those things may have a certain appeal, but they are not worth it.

Neither is dipping snuff. I know it's tough now to say "no", but it won't always be that way. Hang in there brothers and sisters! It gets way easier and way better down the road a little bit.
